Discover Florence and its foods!

This small group walking tour with tantalize your eyes and tempt your tastebuds, combining the background of historical Florence with a taste of city. The perfect city tour for food lovers.

Your walking tour begins in the heart of historical Florence, in the beautiful Piazza Santa Maria Novella, with the Church of Santa Maria Novella dominating its apex. Wonder at the elegant multi-colored façade of one of Florence’s oldest churches, and learn how the geographical landscape of the city evolved over the centuries.

A short walk brings you to the lively, bustling San Lorenzo Market, ground zero for Florence food lovers, where you can taste fresh Italian ingredients directly from the producers: try the typical Tuscan “cantuccini” the most famous biscotti of the region, and eat them as the Italians do, dipping them into the local “vinsanto” sweet wine.

A short stroll brings you to San Lorenzo Church, where you’ll learn the history of its unfinished façade, and then on to Florence’s famous Duomo Cathedral. Along the way, you’ll discover why Florence has so many small walled in windows, the “buchette del vino,” unique to Florence. Once you learn their secret, and how to spot them, you may begin to find them all over Florence.

Then its time for another treat, a visit to a local “vinaino” wine shop to taste the famous Tuscan cured meats: salami, finocchiono and prosciutto, and the region’s pecorino cheese, paired with the world-renowned Chianti wine.

After a snack and wine tasting, your guide will take you through the historic center of Florence, to see the Orsanmichele Church and the Piazza Signoria with the domineering Palazzo Vecchio, as you learn some intriguing facts behind Florence’s (and Italy’s) most famous wine producing families: Antinori and Frescobaldi.

The last stop, and the third tasting, features two of Florence’s most iconic foods, “Ribollita” and “Pappa al Pomodoro” the delicious dishes from the “poor cuisine” that fed the tables of the local peasant families for centuries.

Enjoy this fascinating walk through Florence, discovering its sights, stories and flavors.
