We begin the day with a visit to one of the best cheesemakers in Tuscany, renowned for their fresh sheep’s milk cheeses which are made only seasonally. Depending on the time of year we may taste fresh or aged cheeses including everything from sheep’s milk mozzarella to classic semi-firm pecorino to a soft-ripened “mistake” so great that it became the farm’s flagship. This family-owned farm also produces olive oil and wine, including a Chianti and a Chianti Riserva. We will taste them all.
After our late “breakfast” we will head into the heart of Chianti, passing Antinori’s famous architectural wonder of a winery, and making a brief stop to take pictures at a breathtaking medieval abbey where Galileo once taught, before stopping for a tour and tasting at a custom-built award winning winery who has made a name for itself breaking from tradition and pursuing personal passion – to great result. You might want to pick up a bottle to bring with you as our next stop is lunch at the world famous Dario Cecchini, so called “Butcher of Panzano.”
After a hearty lunch, and a small taste of grappa, you may have free time to explore the the ancient hill top village of Panzano before returning to Florence, full.
